Sleep deprivation can be exhausting! Sleep deprivation significantly affects your health, performance, and your safety. The stresses of daily life may affect our ability to sleep well, or perhaps we trade sufficient sleep for more work or play. We may have medical condition that affects our sleep. Whatever the cause, sleep deprivation is something that cannot be sustained for long.
An alternative to counting sheep is to explore the many different types of holistic solutions that can be used to improve your nights sleep.
~ De-clutter your bedroom ~ In Feng Shui, a messy area symbolizes unfinished business and keeps your mind in an anxious state. Not only do you need to ensure that your bedroom is visually de-cluttered but also ensure that there is no clutter in draws, closets and especially underneath the bed.
~ Remove mirrors from your bedroom. Mirrors are very stimulating for our energy and therefore do not promote rest and relaxation. If they cannot be removed then cover them up at night time with a cloth or drape.
~ Himalayan Rock Salt Lamps generate negative ions when they heat up. The mineral content in this kind of lamp helps to charge the air with negative ions which help to clear our minds and promote relaxation.
~ Remove electronics from your bedroom and shut them down a good hour before bed. This will do wonders for your sleep, the electro-magnetic fields from computers, phones and TVs create havoc on your sleep rhythms and balance. Remember to switch off the Wifi too!
~ Mediate before you go to sleep. This helps to clear your mind so that you feel more relaxed and at ease.

~ Visualize yourself in a protective bubble of pale blue light. Within that bubble, see yourself sleeping on a bed of white angelic feathers and you are having the best nights sleep ever. The power of the mind is a wonderful thing!
~ Play relaxing music while you sleep. This can be something that invokes peace and well being for you such as nature sounds, the sound of water, the sounds of waves caressing a warm, sandy beach.
~ Essential oils are great for promoting sleep. They can either be added to a bath, rubbed onto the soles of your feet, or place a few drops on your pillow. They can also be used as a mist from a spray bottle. Essential Oils such as Lavender, Clary sage, Vetiver, Roman Chamomile, Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood are all wonderful for promoting a good nights sleep. However, Lavender is the only oil that would suggest be used to assist sleep for babies and young children and only a tiny amount should be used.
~ Crystals are high vibrational specimens which have amazing healing properties. Crystals can be used in many different ways. They can placed in your bath, placed under your pillow at night, or you can wear them as jewelry. Amethyst, Charoite, Hematite, Howlite, Lapis Lazuli, Lepiodolite, Moonstone, Sodalite and Topaz are all excellent stones for promoting a peaceful and good nights sleep.
