Anger Management
Anger and Stress Management is an educational program. Dean looks at what needs are not being met and focuses on building those needs back to normality. Dean gets his clients to recognize the signs that are causing them anger and/or stress and helps them find strategies to manage them in a calm and productive manner.
Anger’s Emotions
Anger is a basic emotion that is not right or wrong. It is usually what we do with the anger that gets us into difficulty. Anger can motivate us to achieve greater heights or defend our rights. When the basic emotion is too powerful, or out of control, however:
It can undermine families and destroy relationships.
It can derail careers and seriously impact the work environment.
It can lead to legal problems and violence.
It can have dramatic effects on our health; i.e. liver failure and addictions.
Turned inward, anger can lead to depression.
Stress Management
Stress can be a powerful motivator that can help us meet deadlines or perform at a high level. When it is at too high a level, however:
Stress can charge our households and make it difficult to communicate.
It can make it difficult to concentrate and to meet our obligations.
It can often be a contributing factor in the degree of anger we display.
Chronic stress can have serious effects on our health.
Since our level of stress can be so closely tied to our physical well-being and our relationships, we must learn to cope more effectively. Our ability to manage our stress will directly affect our ability to manage anger.
Emotional Intelligence and Empathy
When our needs go unrecognized and we are frustrated in our attempts to meet those needs, we are primed for anger. When we are insensitive to the needs of others and fail to address those needs, they become frustrated.
The result:
Increased anxiety
Frequent verbal escalations
Strained personal relationships
Frustrated co-workers, customers, clients.
Communication Skills
When we see to proactively and efficiently communicate, we can move mountains. When we fail to communicate effectively:
Misunderstandings develop.
Feelings get hurt.
Relationships stagnate.
Deadlines are missed.
