The disadvantage of being a Foster Mum for the local humane society is that occasionally you fall madly in love with them. This was the case for Nigel and Mateo. Five week old stray kittens who came into our home with their siblings Toby and Melina. Too young and too small to be adopted and having a run of repeated Upper Respiratory tract infections, they stayed with us all summer.
A day after they returned to the Humane Society and many tears later, my daughter and I headed back there to bring two of them home. The decision on which two was made easier by the fact that Toby and Melina were in the process of being adopted when we arrived. Homeward bound with two new tribe members.
Thankfully there were no repeats of Upper Respiratory tract infections but our boys did have the occasional bouts of sneezing and extremely watery eyes. Mateo developed an eye infection and on discussion with the Veterinarian it was brought to my attention that our boys may have inherited feline herpes, also known as feline viral rhinopneumonitis (FVR), rhinotracheitis virus and feline herpes virus type 1 (FHV-1).
FVR is one of the most common causes of upper respiratory infections in cats and many cats are exposed to this virus at some point in their lives. Once your fur baby is infected, the majority do not get rid of the virus. However, symptoms can be treated with oral antibiotics or antiviral medications and drops or creams may be used for conjunctivitis or other eye irritations. It is said that with medication, good nutrition and tender loving care, most cats will make a successful recovery.
Mateo’s eye infection cleared up with a course of antibiotics but Nigel developed a constant watering of one of his eyes. There was no sign of infection just a stream of water. He also developed some kind of allergic reaction around his neck. He had huge lumps around his neckline which were inflamed and infected.
I started him on Medicinal Mushrooms. I broke open a balance capsule and gave him about an eighth mixed in with his food. Within a few days the watering had lessened, within a week it had stopped. He continued on daily Balance for about 4 months and then we started to reduce the amount to once every other day. We are now giving him his dosage once a week. Since taking the Mushrooms he has been symptom free; no watery eyes and no more nasty lumps.
Balance for men and women is a medicinal mushroom formula which is excellent for the foundation of good health. It is a nutritionally rich mushroom blend which contains polysaccharides and antioxidants to promote immunity and whole body wellness. It contains Organic Lingzhi mushroom, Organic Lion’s Mane mushroom and the Cordyceps mushroom.
Balance is not only for men and women, Balance is also for cats!
